What are social media?
On the Internet, social media are applications whose objective is to connect friends, acquaintances or associates. Through this, users can share informations, photos or videos.
Social media are as well for personal or professional.
The social media today:
In 2019, there were 3.4 billion users of social media. 90.4% of Millennials use social networks, Gen X are 77.5% and only 48.2% of Baby Boomers use social networks.
On the one hand the Gen Z, 82% of them use Instagram compared to 84% who use snpachat. On the other hand, it’s important to know that Facebook isn’t popular with this generation as previous generations. Even if it is the leader concerning the social media, with 2.49 billion users, it doesn’t appeal to the younger generation. Indeed, only 28% of 15-year-old teens use Facebook.
What are the interests of social media?
First of all, social media are used to communicate with our closes relations, friends, acquaintances… We can also find a job, meet new people, share a passion, interest… They, therefore, allow us to maintain a certain link with people we couldn’t see physically or to share moments of everyday life with a community.
Social media are today a tool of communication strategy. Indeed, almost 80% of brands are present on social media. This allows them to manage their relationship with their customers and to transmit more or less important information (such as sending newsletters). Through social media, brands can, therefore, create links, build loyalty, bring content and even humanize themselves.
Positive points:
Communication tool: you can communicate more easily with your closes relations, friends, acquaintances … which keeps people connected. It is through certain applications like Snapachat or Whatsapp that we can communicate with our surroundings.
Sharing tool: it is facilitated through social media like Youtube, Facebook or Instagram. We share photos, videos, our interest centers…
Information tool: we can find on the social media of press companies such as Le Monde for example. On media such as twitter, the president, the Prime Minister or departments can inform the public by short messages.
Negative points:
Pedophilia: Some people hide behind false profiles to talk to minors and ask them to do obscene things.
Bullying: Many teens, influencers are prone to cyberbullying.
Cybercrime: many hackers invade the net. Their goal? Steal your identity. To do that, they will break into our computer and steal passwords, bank card numbers …
